A LIGHT OBJECT | A PIECE OF ART | A SIGNAL
INTRODUCTION – suddenly oysters started to appear in my work as an artist
The thought that grabbed me was that oysters, these beautifull wonders of creation, should not simply be devoured; they demand a higher acknowledgment, an increase in fame, given visibility by restaurants and shops where oysters are available, or simply shine in people’s homes.
In my mind I sketched one – in one fluid line, just like Henri Matisse created a woman in one continuous line. A line that reveals, or rather that divulges it all!
Dozens of sketches later I found her. And, I wanted to let her shine like a light at the sky!
First a little bit more background:

THE OYSTER APPEARING IN MY WORK
SO I HAD THE PERFECT LINE
The Oyster Light (in Dutch: Oesterlicht) was born. Born on paper, but who could create her, make her tangible?
I researched and ventured out, visited many many manufacturers, learned a lot along the way – and then came across a company named Cleary B.V. specialised in neon signs, located in Nuenen, near Eindhoven and where Vincent van Gogh lived from 1883-1885. Their enthusiasm for my mere concept was contagious and inspiring. They pursued perfection through trial and error to create the OysterLight as it is today. Thank you Joyce, Raymond and Ruud from Cleary B.V. and the others for your passion and energy.
I am also still very thankful for friends and family who helped raise the funds to create its prototype through crowd-funding.
HERE IS OLO
THE OYSTER LIGHT OBJECT
RESEARCH AND IDEAS
-Could it be placed outside?
-Could there be some more options, for instance not hanging, but straight on a wall, with the Oyster Light on one side? or even perpendicular to the facade.
-RVS and en aluminium would remind one of the glittering of water, of the sea
-The materials used: it must be possible to recycle and by using Led Light very little energy would be consumed
